Rick shuffled his feet nervously. He hated doubting himself, but even more that he was doubting his best friend. He had no business being there. As soon as he was discovered there would be hell to pay, he knew that without a doubt.
But he couldn’t stay away. When Aaron said he was needed at home, Rick dropped everything and returned.
But once he realized the extent of what his friend was asking Rick was ready to jump the first flight out of town.
Aaron must have seen the look in his eyes, the look Rick always got before he ran. The look he mastered the last time he saw her.
The look that haunted him on good days and terrified him on bad days.
He’d been all over the country because of that look. Sure, he could blame his job as a consultant, but deep down he’d admitted the truth to himself.
He ran because of her.
Because one night with her would never be enough.
Because one night with her left him wanting more.
Because one night with her had changed him forever.
