Excerpt from Love Is Thicker Than Water
She jumped and spun toward the newcomer, only to scare him and have him shout and take a quick step backward. He tripped over a root or slipped or something, and before she knew it, he was sprawled on the ground and groaning.
“Oh, my God. Are you okay?”
“Bella?” he croaked.
“Yeah. Sorry. I…”
“Was trespassing again?” Ryan said with a trace of humor in his voice.
“Well, yeah. And I was hoping to see you.”
He pushed himself to a seated position. “You might get to see more than you bargained for. I think I ripped my damn pants.”
A snort worked its way free from Bella’s throat. She slapped her hand over her mouth, but it was too late.
“Are you laughing at me now?” Ryan asked.
She shrugged. “Maybe.”
“What about this is so damn funny?” he demanded, although the teasing tone was still there.
“I don’t know. You’re this big, strong, firefighter who doesn’t seem to get easily ruffled. And you’re laying on the ground in ripped pants threatening to show me what you’ve got.”
He snorted. “I…Jesus. You’re going to get me into trouble.”
“Trouble can be so much fun,” Bella said with a grin.
